Eastern Mennonite University Gay Pride Activism / Pink Menno Stronghold

“EMU is a “Christian university like no other”” (Susan Schultz Huxman, PhD, President, Eastern Mennonite University, https://emu.edu/catalog/docs/EMU-catalog-2018-19.pdf) — gay pride is front and center.

EMU IS PART OF THE PINK MENNO MOVEMENT

“When delegates at the Kansas City conference adjourned one of their voting sessions, they were greeted with a silent protest by activist group Pink Menno. Some wore duct tape over their mouths to symbolize how they felt they were being silenced.” (Kevin Williams, Mennonites struggle to agree with each other on same-sex marriage, Aljazeera America, 26 Jul 2015)

What a joke.  If they had traveled to Harrisonburg, instead of wasting their money on  Kansas City, they could have enjoyed a full immersion experience in Mennonite Gay Pride at ultra-liberal Eastern Mennonite University (see at left):

“Teenagers Sam and Alex are sick and tired: they’re tired of their church’s exclusive stance on homosexuality, and sick due to a week-long hunger strike to protest it. But when word finally gets out, it becomes clear that their cause has struck a chord in their small Mennonite community. Crowds begin gathering outside their church, national news crews begin following the story, and Sam is visited by the ghost of Menno Simons, who claims he has been sent to help her. Awaiting their church’s decision, Sam and Alex must decide whether sticking up for a community who has been spiritually starved is worth the risk of physically starving themselves.” https://theatreofthebeat.ca/this-will-lead-to-dancing/

This powerful expression of gay pride was sponsored by:

Bible, Religion and Theology Department and Theatre of the Beat”.  https://emu.edu/events/#/?i=2

BUT IS EMU JUST “TOO GAY”?

“As of the end of business Monday, we

GAY ORGIES HAVE BROKEN OUT SPONTANEOUSLY AT PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES

did not receive approval from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to hire (pay) Theatre of the Beat for the April 3rd performances of This Will Lead to Dancing leaving us with no choice but to cancel the performances.” https://emu.edu/events/#/?i=2

AND IF EMU ISN’T GAY ENOUGH FOR YOUR TASTES, COME ON HOME TO SEATTLE MENNONITE

“Neufeld describes the Seattle Mennonite Church as being at the forefront of the inclusion of gays and lesbians in the church. (A same sex marriage was performed 10 years ago“.  (Kevin Williams, Mennonites struggle to agree with each other on same-sex marriage, Aljazeera America, 26 Jul 2015)

In the middle, things are much more conservative — Hesston College is still straight, for example.  And gay couples will get the cold shoulder if they walk in to pretty much any Mennonite worship center in Nebraska.

But “Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.”  (Ecclesiastes 4:6)

I don’t think that EMU could get any gayer.  Seattle Mennonite is fully out of the closet.  So, instead of journeying to Kansas City, in the conservative Mennonite heartland, why not just move to the Mennonite Gay Village in Harrisonburg, and revel in the PRIDE!!
